Why go there?
There is so much to do in Wollongong. Being so close to Sydney it’s often missed out as a tourist destination but it’s well worth the short trip and can make the ideal day trip to get out of Sydney. There are 17 magnificent beach that all worth exploring. Wollongong is near the beautiful Royal National park, where you can do bush walks and 4WD tours. It gets plenty of rainfall so it’s worth checking out this lush playground.
Warning: Visit Wollongong for a day and you might want to liver there! It’s been judged Australia’s most livable city and after being there it’s not hard to see why.

- Visit the Illawarra Museum Being Australia’s Third oldest city, there are plenty of interesting sights at the Museum that are well worth the visit. Housed in a 1882 pre-Federation post office it provides you with an insight into Wollongong’s early years.
- Visit NSW only Theme Park For kids or the kid at heart the Jamberoo Action Park promises a day full of great action. Featuring The new Taipan thrill ride, Massive wave pool, 300m chair lift, Mountain toboggan, 18 water slide drop, 600m Racing car track, Mini Golf and much much more.
- Wollongong City Gallery, Australia’s largest regional gallery. featuring many contemporary Australian artists and a magnificent collection of Aboriginal and Illawara colonial art.
- Eating Out To sample some of the famous south coast seafood you just have to dine at one of the many delicious restaurants in Wollongong.
- Cycle Tour Did you know that Wollongong has over 60 kilometres of shared cycleway? What better way to enjoy the wonderful coastline then to jump on a bike (which you can hire from many locations in Wollongong) and explore the region.
